Sally
Lee’s paintings seldom talk directly about the concept
that lies behind. They encourage, but do not pressure the spectator
to perceive the paintings as a mirror. In the series “P’s
matter” she invites the spectator to explore the
complex microcosm of the public washroom. With “Age_ing”,
“Listen_ing”, “Give_ing”, “Happen_ing”,
and “Be_ing” for example she scrutinizes the in-between
spaces and relationships that occur when people interact with the
physical space of public washrooms. “By taking out or enlarging
the different moments and activities that take place in this space,
I am interested in exploring how and where these can be inserted
back into the whole picture”, states Sally.
