AION art gallery is a new art space on Main Street between 7th Avenue and 8th Avenue. It is a 2100 square foot storefront and offers 230 feet of running wall space to exhibit artists.

Aion Art Gallery is owned and designed by Stefani Peter and Sandy Greig. It shows artists from Vancouver and across Canada, as well as from Europe, the USA and South America.

The gallery's mandate is to promote local representations as well as ongoing exchanges with partner galleries in Germany and Brazil.

The flexible physical layout of the space accommodates versatile programming including art exhibitions, artist talks and round table discussions, dance and music performances, poetry readings and book launches.

The gallery team:

Stefani Peter has been a freelance artist since 1985. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg, Germany, and has a university degree in Art Education and English. Since 1986 her work was shown internationally and she received several fine art grants and scholarships. Between 1990 and 1991 she acted as curator for the Rosmarion Art Gallery in Erlangen, Germany. She has juried a number of exhibitions for the Kunstverein Erlangen (Municipal Art Association) and founded the vibrant European non-profit art association ARCUS in 1996. As curator for ARCUS, Stefani showcased artists from France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany and Brazil in five international exhibits until 2002. Since 1994, and continuing today, she has collaborated with Ponte Cultura, a non-profit art association which links Brazil with Europe. As a guest artist at the Malaspina Printmakers Society she initiated her artistic connection with Canada in 2001. On the second day of her first visit she met Sandy Greig at the Fido store, not yet knowing that this encounter would change her life.

Sandy Greig The Collected Works of Sandy Greig reads like a series of Rudyard Kipling "Just So" stories - from "How the Lobster Fisherman built his home in Nova Scotia", to "How the Fine Furniture Maker became a set builder and a Special Effects Specialist for the CBC." While moving from Coast to Coast over the last twenty-five years, Sandy discovered several hidden talents as a freelance set builder in Toronto, an owner/operator of the Magic Coin Cafe in Victoria, and as a Props Master in Vancouver. For the last six years, Sandy has developed a strong reputation as a leading Art Director in the Vancouver Film Industry. Soon after they met in 2001, both Sandy and Stefani knew they made a great team - as the inspiration behind AION art gallery and in marriage. That Stefani doesn't mind a ride on Sandy's motorcycle never hurt either...

Barbara Birg Rahmann is the chief curator for AION Art Gallery. Barbara moved to Vancouver from Zurich, Switzerland in October, 2003, where she earned an MA in art history and politics at the University of Zurich. Barbara researches artists and artwork internationally and prepares exhibition material for the gallery.

Michelle Huisman ; Michelle's 10 years experience in ballet coupled with a Bachelor of Applied Art in Still Photography from Ryerson Polytechnical University in Toronto, Ontario gives her an appreciation for both the labour and love of the fine arts. Michelle's thesis work at Ryerson also included an innovative etching collection that was purchased by Polaroid tm. Rounding out her education Michelle spent 2 years travelling Canada, Europe and Asia. In the film industry for the last 5 years, Michelle currently works as a Set Decorator.

Brigitte Potter-Mäl (who helped the gallery over the first months) leaves Vancouver for Sicily to teach English and work for her own art under the italian sun.
